Gold wedding rings

The wedding rings are a symbol of love, commitment and whatever they want who harbor them. After centuries being the emblem of thousands of love stories, few people know that their origin is entirely pagan.

Few traditions are preserved as intact as the exchange of rings during the wedding, or delivery of an engagement ring before this one. While the materials used have changed over time, the symbolism is identical. The circular ring reminiscent of something that has no end, that is what isrepresented.

Almost all historians claim that the Egyptians were the first to use theengagement ring as established custom. The groom gave the bride a ring, usually of gold and original forms, which was used in the ring finger, and it was believed that the heart was there a vein in direct path, "vena amoris". The only difference with the current practice is that these rings are renewed every year.

Evolution of rings' design

Something more rustic, but no less symbolic, was the Roman custom. In general, the ring that was given to show affection and duration of the affairwas made of iron.

In the Christian era, in the second century, the use becomes widespread. But the diamond ring does not begin to be used until the fifteenth century. Until then, women wore these stones. In France, King Charles VII, gives hisfavorite, Agnes Sorel, a diamond, and fashion is expanding rapidly. Of course this happens only among aristocrats, given the high cost of these stones.

The first engagement ring with diamond, was that Maximilian of Austria gaveto his girlfriend Mary, daughter of the Duke of Burgundy. A reproduction of this piece is exposed in the Kunsthistorisches Museum in Vienna. The diamondsare arranged to form the letter M Gothic of the initials of the couple, and the Virgin Mary.

We do not know why in Spain engagement rings and wedding are used unlike in the rest of the world, except in Catalonia. In most countries, the wedding ring goes on the left hand and the engagement ring on her right hand, both in the ring finger.

The ring finger can not be separated

Well, apart from this exception, we will focus on why the ring on the ring finger, here's the most romantic explanation we have found: this traditional tale originates in an ancient Chinese legend.

The fingers of your hands, thumbs represent your parents, your index fingersare for friends and brothers, the middle finger is you, the following is the unionwith a partner you have chosen and little fingers, of course, are children.

Now you do the following: your hands together, palms facing, and middle fingers joined by joining the two knuckles, and the rest of the fingers with eggyolk join them. As shown in the picture illustrating this post. Once you put your hands in this position, separating the thumbs, you see you can do because it means that your parents are not destined to live eternally with you. Then try toseparate the index and you can because your friends and brothers formedtheir own families. Now separate the little fingers, this means that at somepoint in life let your children fly the way they choose. Finally, attempts to separate the ring fingers, you can not do it because that's the finger thatrepresents the communion with man or woman of your life.
