We have already seen more than once on this website, accessories made with the technique of macramé. If you want to know the wonderful art of knotting you must read this interesting article released by Maria Pia Vargas and posted on his blog ARTESANÍAS Y MANUALIDADES.
It is an ancient art that is performed only with the help of hands and that means "the art of knots." This word of French origin meaning "knot" in turn derives from the Turkish word "Makrama". This art is so old that people like the Persians and Assyrians used it with great skill. It was the Arabs who were responsible for making it known in Europe and it was these last who were in charge of extending it all over America. This is one of my favorite techniques because they require few materials for tissues and points are easy to perform.
I've been making hanging baskets for plants, wall ornaments, bracelets, necklaces, decorative items and other things that I'll show step by step. You can perform a large number of ornaments using basic knots and their combination. These knots are knots plane, the twisted knot, the knot of Jimmy and the knot of chain. Below I will show you the materials they need to create objects in macrame.
THREADS.
There are a variety of threads that can work in macrame. All are available for sale on the market and personally advise them to choose good quality wires to ensure a good outcome.
POLYESTER THREAD: It's a very durable material and easy to work. This type of thread can be found at stores that sell sporting goods. There are different thicknesses and the finest of 2 mm, allow the creation of bags and jewelry. In general this type of thread should be especially spacious work carried out in knots and the only thing to take into consideration when using it is to remember to heat the tip after cutting the wire to prevent this is spoilache.
EMBROIDERY COTTON THREAD FOR: This type of thread is tailored especially for fine and delicate works. It's a bit difficult to work and I recommend its use only to people who perfectly mastered the technique because once the knots have been made, it is not possible to restart the fabric (the wire breaks).
THE RUBAN: This thread allows the realization of raffinose works in a wide variety of colors and materials.RAT TAIL THREAD: This material allows the realization of fine works and refined. There are in cotton and synthetic, and their use can work out the knots.
RAT TAIL THREAD: This material allows the realization of fine works and refined. There are cotton and synthetic and their use can work out the knots.
COTTON KNITTING WOOL: They are widely used and allow the realization of works in various colors. With these materials, knots are easy to work and the works do not remain rigid.
CROCHET COTTON: They are in multiple colors and are recommended for detailed work.Fancy yarns: These threads are special for small jobs and I strongly recommend for the realization of jewelry or small accessories.
FANCY THREADS: These threads are special for small jobs and I strongly recommend for the realization of jewelry or small accessories.
SISAL: This was the material formerly used for excellence in the creation of works of macrame. There are various sizes and recominedan for jobs that require solid wire. Currently, this technique is used in combination with beads and accessories to give life to modern objects.
NECESSARY MATERIAL.
Although, the macrame is a technique that is only made with hands, it is necessary to have on hand the following materials if you want to work the technique correctly.
A PLASTIC OR WOOD SUPPORT: To work on it and block the nodes that are working through plastic tweezers.
TIGHT PLASTIC CLIPS: To lock and secure the points that are made.
TAPE MEASURE.: Huincho used by seamstresses.
SCISSORS: Indispensable for cutting threads.
BASIC POINTS OF MACRAME.
Then I explain through pictures and written procedures are performed as these knots. As there is not much literature about this, I hope that what I intend to serve them in order to make yourself your own tissues. To better appreciate the steps these knots, I invite you to enlarge photos that illustrate them, so they can better appreciate the performance of the technique. A lot of patience and luck !!!!!!
KNOT OF MOUNTING This knot allows the installation of the first threads in a woven macrame or incorporate other threads in the same while this is done. STEPS: Extend the support thread said horizontally with the plastic clips on each end. (The support is light blue) Fold a piece of thread in two and pass the ring above and behind the support. Route the wires through the ring and then close. The mounting is ready and we can start building the other knots.
REVERSE KNOT OF MOUNTING. Serves the same objectives as the other node but is backwards. Steps: Install the wire folded in two over the support. Pull the ring down and pull the threads inside it. Close. The mount point is ready.
FLAT KNOT This knot and done on a stand and be done with multiple threads woven together. May be several knots, one after another, and the importance of this knot is that one thread always goes on the stand and the other is always lower. STEPS: Mount two-wire double horizontal support (Mounting knots), can be made without the support as in the case of jewelry. The two wires will be the supports and the threads on the sides (or outside) will be the worker threads that will be knitting. Knot (first time) the external knots around the support, by passing a strand of work on the support and the one below. Make the second part of the knot keeping the same wire on top and bottom. Close the knot.

TWISTED KNOT. It performs similarly to the flat knot, but always on the same side, in this way we are making the twisted knot.
INTERCROPPING FLAT KNOTS IN VARIOUS RANGES. You can do with the amount of wire you want but always in even number. STEPS: Mount six knots on the horizontal support. In the first range, made three flat knots on the support. In the second rank, leave pending the first two threads on the left and two on the right. Make two flat knots next to each other. The knots are so interspersed in a range to another.
INCREASES IN TISSUE. Wires can be increased during tissue with the help of the flat spots. STEPS: Place a wire folded in two by the external threads of a fabric that has been made with flat knots. This can be done on both the left and right of a tissue. Tie the knot first part of the flat knot using a portion of the wire as support and the other as a thread to tie. Realize the flat knot.
