Pajarita broochs by Joyas de Papel

Joyas de Papel is a young company with new ideas, brilliant, groundbreaking... a breath of fresh air to the sector with a disturbing proposal that surprises with its freshness. Diego Ante manages a project in which paper is the protagonist.

Diego Ante is at the head of one of the most original signatures and bold jewelry of the moment. The pieces by Joyas de Papel are handcrafted with great skill and a developed aesthetic sense with which the creative can be more than satisfied.

Just one look at his website to find a true visionary of the new designer jewelery, a universe created by dreams that materialize on paper, without neglecting the quality of the material and the use of techniques to ensure their durability time.

Diego Ante, responsible and creative of company, answer us a few questions that define your project. Nobody better than him for describe his world:

Gato Negro broochDiego, Why paper? What gives you this material that do not give others?

It is a recurring question, the truth is that the answer changes over the years. At first merely immediacy, ability to work anywhere, the fun of playing with people and surprise them anywhere and with a piece of paper. Although looking back I realize that I have half my life playing with the paper in its various forms, models, pop-ups, origami, cutouts, cardboard ... is a material that attracts me.

How is the process of creation?

Depending on the piece, but reduced to its most basic is to grab a piece of paper (usually square) and fold. Finally, after more or less frequently bend, you get a figure that is given up to 4 layers (usually one per day) to protect the pieces of the water and harden. Finally, mounted in silver.

Logically depends on the piece, there are some parts faster with fewer folds, some with more. In others it is necessary to find a specific paper, some (like cats) must be mixed directly into various roles and hand painted. Or directly to find rare and papyrus papers, or have stomach ache from eating too many Sugus to have the necessary raw materials;)

And the inspiration? Where do you get the ideas, the motifs?

A bit of everything, most of the pieces that make up the core collection have been obtained based on miniaturization of origami figures. Looking for a reason I liked and down to achieve the finish required, since not all the figures support the miniaturization and the role you want to use supports many folds in so little space. But inspiration comes in any way, an idea, a flash, saw a figure who asks you to turn it into something concrete.

On the other hand, new collections come out, the first one in the fall, will be organized around a common motif. One idea or concept will the body to the entire collection.

You'll have to work long hours ... Are you up for it?
It is difficult to quantify compensation or something. I am an industrial engineer, could work in that field and what do I compensate? I think not. I chose the role because jewelry is something that makes it unique for me, amuses me. I easily spend hours there is always more work to enjoy, others like less, but overall I pass it as a child.

I have also fortunate to work on something that has allowed me to learn a different world and a great people and besides I'm traveling more than ever lately, the only pity is that the markets do not always leave time that I would like to visit cities where I go.

How to "survive" a craftsman these days?

It is a recurring question in all fairs, craft sessions, etc. to which I attend. Everyone complains that the fall in sales has been brutal, that the work done in range low prices so that sometimes we do not compensate ... I do not know, my company has just over a year old so I did not know better times. I know people gradually gets to know me. Internet is essential in this respect, although it is true that you get to know the web is doing fairs and handing out cards. Is a circle.

I think the basis for survival is to transgress, not stay in the same old thing and do something different. Do not put limits. In that regard perhaps the craftsmanship itself to suppress, sometimes that does not fit who do not make traditional crafts. Or who does not perform traditional craft does not see sense of the world of crafts.

And above all conform to what people ask, for example Joyas de Papel is not just jewelry on paper, there is also a collection of accessories based on the artwork of my sister Begoña Ande, and soon we will have shirts.

If you had to start again...

I would repeat, or rather, I would not expect both to start.

From Eloart we wish many success to Joyas de Papel, with Diego Ante the lead, and we appreciate his cooperation for the article.
